Florence House

On the second Wednesday of each month,  a cadre of volunteers from First Parish donates a few hours of their time as volunteer cooks at Florence House. Florence House provides safe and supported permanent  and temporary housing to chronically homeless women in the Portland area by providing: efficiency apartments for women who are ready to manage independently;  Safe Haven- a permanent private living space for chronically homeless women who are not ready to maintain their own apartments  but are working on skills to become more independent;    Emergency Beds for immediate, short-term housing for women who are temporarily homeless because of an economic or situational crisis. Florence House provides three hot meals each day to these homeless women.

Volunteers help prepare and serve nutritious meals for 50 women. Volunteers also help with dishes and clean up.  First Parish volunteers car pool from the church, arrive at Florence House  at 4:30, help prepare a meal for Florence House clients and arrive back at the church at 8:00 pm.
